Exhibition of art from Czechia, Poland and Slovakia on the hybrid aspect of the present day against the background of the post-transformation Central European landscape

The exhibition concentrates on areas once known as industrial, which are undergoing transition today. The artists tackle the issue of hybridization processes taking place there, including changes that concern all of us but do not make the world a more understandable or transparent place.

Hybrid-in may be seen as a visual antidote and answer to the contamination and viral infection of the environment. We caused the former and have fallen victim to the latter. In the post-internet, post-production world, the phenomenon of hybridization is spreading, entering the political and social territory from the pioneering sphere of hybrid materials, oxide-covered metal sheets, polystyrene, etc. Hybridization is now present in all walks of life, from genetically modified wheat, hybrid cars and communication, hybrid satellite receivers and hybrid wars to hybrid identity. The process of relentless hybridization is continuing, blurring the contours of the present, its distinctions and distribution of status.

The objects in the exhibition follow this trail. They juxtapose materials and found objects with knowledge derived from cultural contexts. A new picture of reality emerges from the junction of knowledge and chance, sculptural “creation” and material bastards found among ordinary objects, all subject to diverse interpretations.
