Hitherto best known as a utility glass designer, Agnieszka Bar is premiering her artistic works. The exhibition at SIC! BWA Wrocław will feature not only glass objects but also ceramics, textiles, drawings, installations, and to-camera performance. The title is a reference to the artist’s personal experience.
The exhibition addresses the topic of miscarriage, which can be difficult for some people.
Loss is a land to be somehow traversed, crossed on foot and barefoot, usually with very heavy baggage. It stretches between pain and despair, and the will to live, love and acceptance. Its mountainous landscape abounds with valleys and cliffs, numerous rivers with their tributaries, and very fertile soil. The journey typically starts from the side of a gorge and, weather permitting, can end in vast pastures after you have crossed the peaks of a high mountain range. Having descended from the mountaintops, the travellers are usually ready to share their experience with others. Agnieszka Bar finds herself in precisely such a position. Recounting the sometimes-unpredictable path that she has taken, she creates space for the stories of other travellers at different stages of their journey.
The ideas behind the artworks in the exhibition emerged in the artist’s dreams. The images, dictated by the subconscious, can be considered an illustration of an inner journey through Loss, a place where each of us has been, and certainly will be. The warm light and red colours dominant in the exhibition refer to the internal and related to the body. The underlying intention is to create a safe place to share experiences, receive support and discuss tabooed issues of loss and grief.
