Study stay – artistic residency programme at Studio BWA Wrocław gallery
BWA Galleries of Contemporary Art, in connection with the mother earth exhibition, announce the first call for its Study stay for an artist parent. The Study stay will take place in autumn 2022 at Studio gallery (Ruska 46a/301 St.).
Study stay is organized by Studio BWA Wrocław Gallery. Three open calls for study stays will be launched at the turn of 2022-2023, each selecting a person or collective that decides to bid jointly. As an institution, we offer resources such as the workplace, accommodation and fee, in return hoping to accompany the artist’s creative process together with the audience. We do not expect a final result or project completed within a month or two. We want to talk about the creative process, observe interim results and give the audience an opportunity to meet the artist.
Bids:
The first call for the Study stay, in connection with the mother earth exhibition is dedicated to parents, especially mothers, whose childcare determines their creative, artistic, professional possibilities.
It is common for mothers of young children to be unable to return to professional work or public life for seemingly prosaic reasons, which alienate and frustrate them more than they should. The Study stay at Studio BWA Wrocław will make artistic work possible, acknowledging the needs of a parent.
We are aware of the fact that the call is mostly addressed to mothers, but if you are a child’s or children’s caregiver and it significantly affects your professional career opportunities, you are welcome to apply.
We offer:
- accommodation in Wrocław at the Studio BWA Wrocław gallery
- a fee of PLN 5,000
- budget for the production of work PLN 2,000
- childcare in the amount of PLN 3,000 (if care is not required, the amount of PLN 3,000 will be added to the production budget)
- a place to work in the space of the Studio BWA Wrocław gallery

What is important to us:
What is important for us is not only the artists’ existing works, new ideas or projects, but also external circumstances which influence the applicants’ possibilities or difficulties. Our Study stays are intended to give an opportunity for artistic development to people facing daily financial difficulties, lacking workplaces, trying to balance professional work with childcare responsibilities, or adapting to life as migrants in a new country. Each of the factors influences the possibility of living off artistic work, which in capitalism is precarious and unstable.
