Cutouts. Kasia Kmita’s postcards
Cutouts by Kasia Kmita contest the ubiquitous codes of visual identification and imply the need for a definition of the New Folk phenomenon by a brave juxtaposition of global brands with the toilsome technique of traditional papercutting.
Combining the traditional, handmade cuttings with pop-culture symbols, Kmita exploits media and advertising motifs in the same way in which folk artists in the past immortalized motifs from their surrounding natural world.
