State of Exception. TIFF Festival 2021
We invite you to the Studio BWA Wrocław gallery for the exhibition of the Main Program of the TIFF Festival International Photography Festival.
State of Exception is our attempt to show what we observe and feel as the main causes of contemporary tensions. It grows out of our conversations about what is so close that it becomes transparent, imperceptible, but in the end can always become oppressive.

So-called “normality” is impossible, yet constantly assumed. Many aspects of our culture are nurtured by images constituting guidelines for an ideal life. Suffice it to mention the vision of beauty and perfection in life depicted by advertising and stock photography. The confrontation with images consists in observing and deconstructing the devices on how the strategies of everyday life are implemented, on interpreting what and why is considered acceptable, healthy and lawful.
This mind game takes place in many areas: how to be a model woman, a wonderful father, a creative employee, an ideal citizen, and how to perfectly perform every social role we enter. We do not prejudge whether the exhibition presents a totalitarian or utopian world. We attempt to reconstruct the different types of tensions that surround us and check when we can make ourselves comfortable in them, and which ones turn out to be (or already are) our prison.
