GlassGo! is the second edition of the research project led by the SIC! BWA Wrocław art gallery. It focuses on the analysis of the condition and function of glass and ceramics in urban space. Rarely considered as appropriate for the exhibition of the above-mentioned media, it reveals new contexts and allows us to “read” them alternatively – as decorative, functional objects, but also as part of everyday urban reality.
With the use of modern research tools and formulas, this year we will focus on glass and ceramics in the context of the Kosciuszko Housing District where the new cultural, artistic and social life began to revive in 1950s. Places such as Stylowa café or KDM restaurant were among the most popular meeting spots. Newspapers were read in the International Press and Book Club and young generation’s new artistic visions thrived in places such as the BWA Wrocław art galleries or Mona Lisa. At night, the square was lit by systematically appearing neon lights. The square symbolized the cultural salon of Wrocław.
Looking at the media such as glass and ceramics, we encourage you to carefully look at the various contexts of their presence and functioning in the public sphere. In cooperation with a group of specialists related to such disciplines as architecture, glass design, art history or issues of urban space, we will explore, analyze and define new tropes. During the entire vacation period, we will be inviting you to go beyond the framework of an art gallery and to map the city space together.
Anyone can play the game at any time. All you need is a mobile phone with an application for reading QR codes and a map that can be collect from SIC! BWA Wrocław, DCF (Piłsudskiego Street 64a) or Green Caffe Nero (Kościuszki Square 1).
